Do I need to clean my new freezer?

Question

I just purchased a new deep freeze and wanted to know if it's necessary to clean the inside of it?

Answer

Yes, it is advisable to clean the inside and allow it to dry before you plug it in and start it freezing. Anything from bacteria to chemicals could be on the inside and simple and quick cleaning can mitigate any risk. Your first option is to use soap, water and a rag to wipe down the inside. If you want to disinfect you can spray the inside with cleaning vinegar. For the cleaning vinegar to be effective you need to allow it to set for 30 minutes. You can then wipe the vinegar out with a rag and allow the inside of the chest time to dry before plugging it in for its first usage.

Vinegar is a safe and effective way to disinfect surfaces where you work with or store food. Note that vinegar is an acid and you should take care to keep it off of your skin.
